xoxy and
sir,
I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt
of your letter No. 2589/1918 of the 12th. instant, relative to applications received from Mr. E. M. Spilman of Bangkok for permission to tranship at Hongkong sporting rune corsi grød to him.
In reply I would state that Mr. 6pilmer is an American attached to the American Presbyterian Mission Proze in this sity. He informe me that his application has reference to one 22 calibra aporting rifle with cartridges
for the sam, which he ordered at the request of ur. V. N.
and English gentleman who de Adviser to the Bangkok Custom Department, Mr. Furn has confirmed this intélligeros and has stated that the weapon is a saloon rifle, the cartridge for it numbering 8,000. Kr. Nunn originally intendeď to use the rifle himself, but has now promised to transfer it on arrival here to Mr. 0. B. Follet, another Englishnan who is employed by the Siamese Government in the capacity of Divisional Superintendent of Police.
At the presert Junature, the importation of firearms and ammunition of any kind into Siam from the British Dominions is very undesirable, and it has for some tims past been the policy of His Majesty's Legation to prevent or restrict such importation as far as possible. An, however, beth Mosers. Jazz and Follet are gentlemen of raputa personally known to him, His Majesty's Minister is not disposed to raise any objection to the consignment ezdar discussion ooning forward, should the Government of Hengkong
see fit to release it.
I have do., (85.) J. Oresby,
7
Acting Consul-General.
